Stretch Marks

How stretch marks occur and ways to prevent and treat them.
Getting Rid of Stretch Marks

Start treating stretch marks as soon as they show up. The earlier you begin treating, the better the results.

1. Sunless Tanning.
Sunless tanning treatments (both spray tans and salon treatments) offer an quick solution for those who wish to make their stretch marks go away in an instant.

2. Stretch Mark Creams.
The moisture level in your skin can affect the magnitude of stretch marks. Stretch mark creams keep your skin hydrated to reduce existing marks and prevent new ones from forming. Look for moisturizing creams containing AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) which helps increase cell turnover and vitamin E which aids skin healing.

3. Dermatological Procedures.
Though more expensive, procedures such as lasery surgery, microdermabrasion and endermologie can also help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
  • Laser surgery uses a special light that targets and fades away the darkened stretch marks on the skin.
  • Microdermabrasion is a skin-rejuvenation technique that involves the sandblasting of fine crystals to remove dead, outer layer of the skin. Through the low-grade irritation of repeated treatments, new collagen formation may be induced in stretch-marked areas.
  • Endermologie is a procedure that uses rollers and gentle suctioning to deeply massage affected areas and boost circulation. Though more well-known for treating cellulite, many people find it also helps with stretch marks.
