Symptoms of cervical cancer

Cervical cancer may bring about one or more of the following symptoms:
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Bleeding that occurs between regular menstrual periods
  • Bleeding after sexual intercourse, douching or a pelvic exam
  • Menstrual periods that last longer and are heavier
  • Bleeding after menopause
  • Increased vaginal discharge
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

Diagnosing cervical cancer

Visit your gynaecologist who will review any symptoms or concerns you may have about your gynaecological health and perform a thorough pelvic exam.

Fortunately, some early pre-cancerous changes in the cervix can be seen before cancer develops. For this reason, it is crucial for women to go for regular pelvic exams and Pap smears to detect cervical cancer before it becomes invasive.
