Early Pregnancy Signs & Symptoms

Think you could be pregnant? Look out for these classic pregnancy signs.
Early pregnancy sign #4:

Nausea or morning sickness

Morning sickness, which can strike at any time of the day or night, is one of the classic symptoms of pregnancy. Morning sickness will often show up between 2 to 8 weeks after conception and usually resolves by the 12th week. Around half to two-thirds of all expecting women experience some degree of queasiness, especially in the first few months.

Experts believe the nausea is associated with the rapidly rising levels of the hormone estrogen, which causes the stomach to empty more slowly. If you get episodes of nausea, try snacking on saltine crackers first thing in the morning, and eating several smaller meals instead of larger ones -- these can help with nausea related to morning sickness.

Early pregnancy sign #5:

Frequent urination

Around the 6th to 8th week of pregnancy, you may start to find yourself making a few extra trips to the bathroom, with small amounts of urination each time. This happens because the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) signals for increased blood supply in the pelvic area, resulting in irritable bladder which passes out even small amounts of urine.

Most women start experiencing more frequent urination within the first few weeks of conception. This usually settles down after a few months, and then returns at the end of pregnancy when the growing baby is exerting pressure on the bladder.
