Growth Guide For Your Baby's First Year

By the first month, your baby may be able to lift his head slightly for a few seconds when lying on his tummy. His range of vision is about 8-15 inches -- the perfect distance for focusing on your face while you're nursing him! Speak or sing to your little angel as you feed, diaper or bathe him as your familiar voice will soothe him. Playing soft lullaby music at bedtime will also help him relax. Touch is very important for your newborn too, so make sure you give him plenty of cuddling and rocking!

For ages 0-3 Months

PHYSICALHead control develops; attempts to lift head when lying facedown; responds to loud noises by blinking, startling, frowning or waking from light sleep; arm/leg co-ordination improves; able to focus on objects 8 to 15 inches away; grasps your finger; bats at objects.
EMOTIONALShows displeasure by crying (respond to her cries quickly -- it's impossible to spoil a newborn); smiles from around 6-8 weeks.
SOCIALRecognizes your face; responds to your voice; blows bubbles, wiggles limbs when you talk or gently play with her; snuggles in your arms for comfort and security.

The information provided is just a guide. All babies are unique and progress at a different pace that is normal for them. Premature babies may reach milestones later than full-term babies.
