Month 8 (Week 32)
The baby has put on quite some weight since last month, mostly fat and muscle tissue, and now weighs about 1.7 kilograms (3.8 pounds) and measures 42 cm (16.7 inches) long. It will gain up to half its birth weight between now and delivery. The baby's irises can now dilate and contract in response to light and it can open or shut its eyes at will. The baby urinates about half a liter of urine into the surrounding amniotic fluid daily.
